Utterson is an incredibly important character in Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. He not only is basically our narrator (see the image above), he is Jekyll's lawyer and has first-hand dealings with his will that benefits Hyde. As the text moves from chapters one through four, Utterson grows increasingly concerned about Jekyll--unsurprisingly considering that Hyde killed someone. Given these facts answer one or more of the questions below:
- Is it appropriate for Utterson to give advice to Jekyll? Does he seem to be going about it the right way? Use information from the videos to support your answer.
- Have you ever tried to help someone? What was that situation like? Did it go the way Utterson's interaction with Jekyll has gone so far? Based on your experience and the videos, what do you think will happen as a result of Utterson's attempts to help Jekyll?
